Our HIV Testing and Treatment Services

With so many in the LGBTQ+ community facing barriers to healthcare, it’s no surprise that people are often reluctant to visit a medical provider for HIV guidance and testing. That’s why Radiant Health Centers is different – we ensure that visitors receive stigma-free care from highly-trained medical providers. We use the following HIV services to ensure the greatest quality of care.

HIV Testing

Various tests are available to detect HIV antibodies and antigens in blood or oral fluid. When a rapid test identifies antibodies, your medical provider will perform a nucleic acid test (NAT) for resigns of HIV in the blood.

Radiant Health Centers offers HIV testing in Orange County for anyone without insurance. You will be asked to share your information if you have insurance.

PrEP

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medication that can significantly reduce the chances of getting HIV. The drug works by helping the body produce antibodies that prevent the virus from multiplying. PrEP treatment is effective for those with a higher-than-average risk of contracting HIV.

PEP

Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is an important medication for those recently exposed to the HIV virus. When taken shortly after likely exposure, PEP treatment helps prevent the viral load from multiplying in the body.

Rapid ART

Rapid ART is an antiretroviral therapy program that begins as soon as possible following an HIV diagnosis. Early intervention is crucial in reducing virus transmission and improving the health of the person with HIV.

Why Knowing Your Status Is so Important

Knowing your HIV status is vital to help maintain good health – and prevent the ongoing spread of the virus. Getting tested can offer peace of mind, and also ensures fast access to HIV treatment. In essence, it allows people to take the steps to protect themselves and their loved ones.

For those living with HIV, building a relationship with your medical provider enables you to more easily access counseling and support services. For example, our HIV Life Skills Workshops are part of the ongoing support system that helps individuals empower themselves and work towards a healthy and productive life.

Common Questions About HIV Testing and Treatment

The time from exposure to when a test can identify HIV will vary; it depends on the test. Testing windows the CDC advises are 10–33 days after exposure for NAT tests, while other antigen/antibody tests range from 18–90 days.

Is there a cure for HIV?

There is currently no cure for HIV. However, treatments like rapid ART can control and manage this disease, allowing people to live healthy lives.

What should I do if I think I’ve been exposed to HIV?

If you suspect you’ve been exposed to HIV, contact your medical provider to discuss the available options, including PEP treatment.
