It was an evening filled with the spirit of giving at Radiant Health Centers’ star-studded gala Starway to the Stars on June 2nd. The event held at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, attracted around 300 guests and helped raise $755,000 toward its Capital Campaign, bringing RHC’s campaign fund to $1.2 million, and putting Orange County another step closer to opening a health center for underserved members of its LGBTQ-plus community.
June 27 marks National HIV Testing Day, which helps promote testing and early diagnosis of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. There are 6,711 individuals living with HIV disease in Orange County and by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates, an additional estimated 941 residents who have HIV and don’t know it – some of whom will develop AIDS before realizing they are HIV-infected.

The Pulse is on the Red Carpet With Singer Songwriter Levi Kreis to talk about his involvement and performance at Radiant Health Centers #Stairway to the Stars Event in Orange County. The event was held at the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point and raised over $750,000 to bring a comprehensive health center for the LGBTQ community in Orange County.
Levi Kreis is a country singer-songwriter and won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for originating the role of Jerry Lee Lewis in Broadway’s Million Dollar Quartet.
When asked what we are most proud of, we think about our life’s greatest accomplishments: career, education or relationships. What I am most proud of is my ability to share my HIV story with others and being able to do so gives me a sense of confidence and pride. Just a decade ago, I recieved a positive diagnosis for HIV and at that moment it meant a death sentence. An inevitable and painful end, along with the stigma and fear of discrimination.
Saddleback’s HIV&AIDS Initiative offers compassion, community, and real solutions for people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. As one of our seven signature ministries, this outreach leads our members and local churches around the globe to play a key role in ending AIDS by caring for people affected by HIV. We demonstrate God’s love for the sick in practical ways including prevention, care, treatment, support, and advocacy.
Orange County’s lone needle exchange program is seeking approval to reopen as a mobile unit, according to OC Needle Exchange Program (OCNEP) board member and UC Irvine School of Medicine student Nathan Birnbaum. The proposed mobile unit would operate in one city per day on weekly rotation from 10am to 5pm in industrial areas of Anaheim, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa and Orange. Santa Ana shut down the program in January.Officials said once the California Department of Public Health certifies the mobile needle exchange program, it can begin again without needing approval from city governments.
Who could oppose the idea of ensuring patients are never discriminated against by hospitals because of their sexual orientations, their gender identities or their gender expressions? Sadly, the answer is federal policymakers. High-ranking officials in the executive branch are systematically tearing out even the humblest measures aimed at upholding the basic American values of fairness and equality. The New York Times recently reported that disturbing new rules are coming out of the Department of Health and Human Services following approval by the U.S. Department of Justice.
If there was a call to action that came out of the most recent engagement of LGBTs in the News with Thom Senzee, America’s longest-touring LGBTQ panel series, it was delivered by Dr. Sean Cahill, director of health care policy research at The Fenway Institute, based in Boston.
“If we’re not counted, we don’t count,” the influential LGBTQ health-policy think tank’s research leader said to an audience of about 120 members of the public, the media, clinicians, social-service workers and other policy professionals at the May 1st engagement of LGBTs in the News, held in Costa Mesa and presented by Radiant Health Centers (formerly AIDS Services Foundation). The panel focused on a range of LGBTQ community health issues under the banner, “Resolving Disparities, Overcoming Barriers.”
