HIV PLUS Magazine | Federal Attack on LGBT and HIV Health Care Is Real and Dangerous

Who could oppose the idea of ensuring patients are never discriminated against by hospitals because of their sexual orientation, their gender identity, or their gender expression? Sadly, the answer is federal health and justice policymakers. High-ranking officials are systematically tearing out even the humblest measures aimed at upholding the basic American values of fairness and equality.

The New York Times reported Saturday that disturbing new rules are coming out of the Department of Health and Human Services, following approval by the U.S. Department of Justice.

An ASO in Orange County dismantles barriers to care

I know all too well how precious good health is and how any support becomes vital for those diagnosed, as well as their families. Three of my kids have had years of mysterious illnesses during which surviving each day was the only focus. Today, I am still a little triggered upon becoming aware of details of one who has poor health. That doesn’t stop me from learning more, it’s just something I notice. Yet, I was surprised by how moved I felt at the Gala held every January for Radiant Health Centers (RHC) in Orange County, California. Jonathan Sweet and Garrett Brewer were on the planning committee and invited A&U’s Senior Editor Sean Black and me to this night of delicious food and great entertainment.

LA Times | Orange County’s needle exchange awaits state approval for mobile service

After Santa Ana city officials shut down Orange County’s only needle exchange months ago, the program may return as a mobile service in Santa Ana, Anaheim, Orange and Costa Mesa.

The move — pending state approval — would widen the influence of the Orange County Needle Exchange Program, which formerly operated out of the Santa Ana Civic Center until city officials denied the group’s permit application in mid-January, citing an increased number of discarded syringes in the area.

Rise Above AIDS, together! AIDS Walk OC is gearing up for its 32nd annual fundraising event. Setting a goal to #EndtheEpidemic by 2025, AIDS Walk OC is aiming to raise $350,000, the total surpassed by last year’s event. The event offers a 5 km walk and Red Ribbon 5 km Fun Run, as well as opportunities to support and cheer the participants. Benefitting Radiant Health Centers, funds raised will help men, women, and children impacted by HIV/AIDS in Orange County access vital services, as well as prevention and education efforts in the region.
